A Table for Seven

Capturing recipes that evolve overtime + the emotional ties to home-cooked food

Skills: Editorial Design ⟐ Illustration ⟐ Sewing ⟐ Computerized Embroidery
When people ask for Vietnamese restaurant recommendations, I tell them my mom’s food. This oversized book contains recipes of my favorite Vietnamese dishes growing up, highlighting how my mom has created her recipes and our family dynamic of 7.

In this project, I challenged myself to try a new production method by learning how to embroider and sew.

Colors inspired by jade and gold, commonly worn by Vietnamese women.

Hidden Artifacts

Front cover has sewn in snaps, allowing pages to be separated from cover.

Detaching the cover reveals family artifacts (pictures, cards, notes) hidden in between the pages.

05

Tote Bag

Inspired by a book bag made by my mom to hold my piano books when I was younger, I made a tote bag to fit the cookbook true to size.

06

Bookmark

A bookmark inspired by a few of my mom’s favorite flowers: cherry blossoms, orchids, plum blossoms, and queen of the nights.

Quilted Poster

Out of the scraps from tests and previous iterations,  I sewn together a quilted poster with embroidered patterns and imagery.
